Privacy Policy – Integrity

The Glassfiles.com website (hereinafter referred to as the “Service”) is operated by the Tampere University of Technology ("Controller", "We", "Us").

Your privacy is very important to us. Accordingly, we have developed this Policy in order to describe how we collect, use, communicate, disclose and make use of personal information.

Data processing

All data is stored and processed by us on servers located within the European Union with the exception of newsletter service which may be located outside the European Union. If you are located outside the European Union, please note that the information you provide will be transferred to the European Union.

E-mail

We encourage you to be on our e-mailing list in order to receive e-mails with information, news and updates on the Service. We only send such newsletter e-mails to you that you have actively accepted (opted-in) to receive. System Alert Messages are sent to all registered users to inform about temporary or permanent changes to our Services including planned outages, new features offered, version updates, point releases, major releases, abuse warnings, changes to our Privacy Policy and possibly also to other documents and agreements.

Automatically collected data

When you visit the Service, we automatically collect data about your visit. This includes:

  • Your IP address
  • Pages you view and the order in which you do it
  • Duration of your visit
  • The website or search engine you came from
  • Keyword(s) you entered in the search engine
  • Your operating system as well as your browser type and version

This information can be combined with information you have provided to us (for instance by registering), and will enable us to analyze and customize our services to you. It will not be used for any other purposes.

Data protection

In order to protect your personal data and all other information we have stored, we have implemented various security measures. Your personal data is stored in a secure environment and treated confidentially.

The personal data is only accessible by a limited number of Controller maintenance personnel, who have the explicitly required access rights and are under obligation to keep the information confidential.

Please keep in mind though that whenever you pass on personal information online there is a risk that third parties may intercept and use that information. While we strive to protect the personal information and privacy of all users, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you disclose online and you do so at your own risk.

Use of cookies

A cookie is a small string of information that is transferred to your computer for identification purposes. Cookies are required by the Service. The information helps us to understand your preferences and improve the quality of our service to you. Cookies must be enabled in your browser settings when using the Service as a registered and authenticated user.

Opt-out, delete or modify personal information

You may cancel your registration with the Service at any time, and you can choose to opt-out of receiving e-mails (with the exception of System Alert Messages) from the Service. Additionally you can choose to have all your personal data deleted from our database by contacting us. If you want to opt-out or modify your personal data, please visit your account settings page. We encourage you to actively update your personal data, if it changes.

The register holder may, pro-actively or upon a user request, complement, correct or delete incomplete, inaccurate or outdated personal data.

4. Purpose for processing the personal data Personal data may be processed for the purposes of using, maintaining and developing the Service, as well as User profiling for providing personalized user services. The Controller may collect and store general information for statistical purposes, and anonymous information may be disclosed to third parties, as further described below.

The Glassfiles.com user database of registered users contains the following information:

  • Professional interests

User postings to the Service

6. Regular sources of information

1. Registered users by entering their information in registration forms or updating personal information after registration and by using the Service

2. Conference organizers and other third parties who are eligible to publish conference articles and other content with author information to the Service

3. The old Glassfiles.com website: article authors as they are, other users need to activate and update their old accounts before their information is stored in the Service in an accessible way

7. Regular destinations of disclosed data and data transfer to countries outside the European Union or the European Economic Area

Public personal data that is visible in the Service to all users

  • name
  • professional summary
  • company, company web page and User's title/position in the company
  • professional interests

Personal data is not disclosed to third parties for direct marketing, market research, polls or public registers. However, the Controller reserves the right to use anonymous data for any purpose, and it may disclose anonymous data to third parties. Anonymous data means that data is purposely made anonymous (e.g. aggregated data from statistical analyses of the aggregate behaviour of users) and that it cannot be used to identify individual Users.

In exceptional circumstances personal data may be disclosed to third parties if required under any applicable law or regulation or order by competent authorities, or in order to enforce the Terms of Service of the Service and to investigate possible infringement in the use of the Service as well as to guarantee the safety of the Service.

The Controller may use external service providers to provide technical solutions for processing stored data and access the stored data by using a technical interface. The Controller may transfer data to countries outside the European Union or the European Economic Area.

8. Data protection policy The system is accessible solely to Controller maintenance personnel who have the explicitly required personal access codes and passwords. Persons processing the data are under obligation to maintain complete confidentiality. The information is stored on a server in Finland.
